ORPA AGE RESTRICTIONS

 ORPA - Adult Section

1.      Riders may compete in this section provided they are 16 years of age or older. There is no upper age limit. 

2.      Any rider under the age of 18 must have the approval of their parent/guardian on both their entry form and/or the 'signing on' sheet for the race meeting.

 ORPA - Youth Section

1.      Riders must be between the ages of 6 to 16 years of age to compete in the Youth division of ORPA for motor cross and motor cycle disciplines.

2.      The following categories are recommended:

·     Automatics                            -        6 - 8 years old

·    65 cc Juniors                                            7 - 10 years old

·    SW 85 cc                                -        9 - 12 years old

·    BW85 cc / 150cc 4 stroke                 -        12-14 years old

              ·    Youth 125cc 2 stroke                        -        14-168years old

3.      A child may race in the appropriate class until the end of the race season provided his date of birth falls on or after 1 January during the season.

4.      Youth riders are able to enter adult novice/junior classes after the age of 16 or stay in the youth section until they are 18. Riders cannot revert to schoolboy once they have transferred to adult classes.

5.      Any rider under the age of 18 must have the approval of their parent/guardian                   on both their entry form and on the 'signing on' sheet for the race meeting.

     

Maximum Wheel Sizes

The maximum wheel and engine size for each class is shown in the table below:

6-8 years

Automatic 50cc

9-12 years

Small Wheel 85cc

All youth riders should be able to sit astride their machine with one foot firmly on the ground.  The use of starting blocks is prohibited.

All motorcycles and helmets must be presented to the scrutineers for examination before the start of any practice or at any time during the meeting as requested by a Clerk of the Course to ensure that they are in a safe condition & that they comply with regulations, the main points of which are listed below:

    Handlebars/footrests – The ends of handlebars must be rounded or otherwise protected.  The ends of footrests must be rounded.

·        Brake/clutch levers – must be ball ended.  The ball may be flattened, but must have rounded edges.

·        Brakes – Each wheel must have an independently operating brake on each wheel.

·        Mudguards – All motorcycles must have a front and rear mudguard.

·        Throttle/Cut-out button – All motorcycles must be fitted with self-closing throttles and an engine cut out button.

·        Guards – All chains must be guarded.

·        Wheels – All spokes must be unbroken.

   Race Rules.

Starting the Race:

The Clerk of the Course will decide when the race can begin.  He is the only person who can give the order to start.  Once riders are deemed to be under the starters orders anyone who is not present or ready will be allowed 3 minutes to prepare to start.  If they are not ready after 3 minutes the race can begin without them. Before the event a change of machine may be permitted if made with the prior knowledge of the Clerk of the Course.  During the race the same machine must be used throughout.

During the Race:

The following flag signals will be used.  Failure to adhere with the flag signals will be dealt with by the Clerk of the Course, but can be punishable by disqualification from the race and/ or meeting.

      National flag:  This may be used to start a race.

      Green flag:  The Clerk of the Course will use this to indicate the course

                     is clear.

     Red flag:  ALL riders must stop.  Riders are prohibited from passing the

                    red flag unless instructed to do so.  Once the flag is passed riders must

                    continue at a slow rate.

     Yellow flag (motionless):  There is a danger in the next section of track. 

                    Riders must proceed with caution.

    Yellow flag (waved):  There is a serious incident which may be of great   

                     danger ahead.  Riders must slow down, take extreme care and be

                     prepared to stop.  There is NO OVERTAKING on a waved yellow flag.

   Black flag:  The rider indicated must stop racing immediately and leave

                    

the track as soon as is safely possible.

 

  White flag:  Medical attention is required at that point.

 


Yellow flag with black cross:  This is the last lap of the race.

 

   Chequered flag:  The race has finished.

Stopping the Race:

In the event of a race being red flagged, the race will not be re-run if over half of the allocated time has been completed as long as the leader has completed two full laps.  The race results will be the results from the last complete lap, with the rider the race was stopped for being unclassified.  In the event of a race being re-run the Clerk of the Course has the discretion to exclude the rider/s from the re-started race.  Exclusion of the rider/s is not compulsory. 

If the race is stopped after the leader has crossed the chequered flag they are classed as having finished.  The order of classification for riders who have not crossed the chequered flag is the order of the last time they crossed the finish line prior to the red flag being shown, with the rider the race was stopped for being unclassified.

Junior 65cc upwards – If during a race a rider receives outside assistance from any other than club officials, or designated assistants, he may, at the discretion of the Clerk of the Course, be excluded from the race.

Finish of the Race:

As the winner crosses the finish line the chequered flag will be displayed.  It will then be kept displayed until the last rider has completed their lap.

Championship Rules

At the beginning of the year all riders MUST show their birth certificate in order to become a member of 90 Racing MXC.  All riders must have a current valid ORPA licence in order to qualify for Championship points.  All riders must join by Round 5 of the Club Championship to have their points backdated.

At the start of the Club Championship all riders must nominate which Championship group they will be riding in.  After Round 1 they may decide to change to another group. This is permissible and championship points will commence from Round 2. However if at any time after Round 2 a rider wishes to upgrade to the next group (e.g. an Auto rider wishes to move up to Junior 65cc class) they may do so with the permission of and at the discretion of the club secretary ONLY.  Once a rider has upgraded to a higher group at 90 Racing MXC they may not ride at the club in the lower group again except in very exceptional circumstances with the express permission of ORPA and the club.  If permission is given to ride in the lower group again rounds ridden will be awarded points on the day but NOT championship points. 

In the same way that riders in races gain 45 points for a win, if a rider (who is also a member) wins overall first at a meeting he will gain 45 Championship points.  Second place on the day will gain 43 Championship points, and that will apply as per the race point structure.  Only members may gain Championship points so if, for example, the top two riders at an event are not members of the club, then the member who takes 3rd overall on the day is entitled to 1st place Championship points i.e. 45 points and so on.

In the Club Championship a rider who does not ride at any event will be classed as having ‘dropped’ a round.  If a rider does not ride due to injury or holiday they may apply to the secretary for a qualifying round.  A qualifying round does not carry any points but will count towards rounds needed to qualify at the end of the Championship.  In the event of a tie on points at the end of the Championship season the rounds each rider has ridden will be look at, and the rider with the most highest place finishes will take the superior position.  In the event of the riders having equal highest finishes as with race day the higher position will be awarded to the highest place last finish.  In Championship terms, this will be the rider who gained most Championship points on the last round each rider rode in the Championship (not necessarily the same round), however that method will only be used in the failure of the first deciding method.  

Points System

The winning rider in each class is the rider with the highest total number of points. Any ties will be settled by the results of the last race in each class.  In the event of riders being on equal points after two races and neither scoring in the last race, then the rider who finished higher in their second race wins overall.

If a rider is unable to complete a race, he is entitled to push the bike across the chequered flag.  He is not to cut the track (unless expressed told to do so by a clerk of the course).  If he can push it over the line unaided or cutting the track he has the points of the place he pushed it over in.  At the discretion of the Clerk of the Course if the track is cut, he may gain last place points if he pushes it over the line ONCE ALL OTHER RIDERS HAVE FINISHED.  Any rider who does not cross the chequered flag is classified as a DNF and will gain NIL points.

Any complaints must be made within 30 minutes of the points being displayed, and the secretary’s decision will be final. The points structure is as follows:
