Racing MXC (ORPA) Round
3 Club Championship Race
Report: Lynsey Hamer
Tom Jennings just before his
accident – photo courtesy of jcp-images Back to Finningley for Round 3 of Club Championship, and the work done by the Ed Bradley and his lads really showed. The track was watered and prepped perfectly, and with over 170 riders again the stage was set for a perfect days racing. Out first again went a big line up of Autos. Racing was fast and competitive with these little guys. Undisputed leader Christopher Mills again took maximum points for the days racing, with Daniel Shepherd second overall. Louis Hurst took overall third with some steady consistent riding. Ben Ruddick’s poor second moto saw him drop to fourth overall, while Owen Woodhouse recoveredfrom a poor first race to take overall fifth. Thomas Holgate rode well to take sixth overall. Next out went the Junior 65s again a big line up. Maximum man Will Keogh again took maximum points, with Eddie Remmer pushing to take second overall. Third overall was taken with some excellent riding by Jay Hague. Ryan Deacon recovered well from a bad first race to take overall fourth, while Danny Mell suffered in the last race and finished fifth after an excellent first race. Keenan Hird rode hard all day and took a well earned overall sixth. Out next went the Small Wheels 85’s.
Excellent riding in these races by all riders saw the top five changing
place all day. Michael Eccles took
the overall top spot with an excellent last race win, and Luke Bull also rode
very well to take overall second. Matty
Wilde took third overall after winning the first race due to a poor last moto.
The Big Wheels 85’s rode out next. Again, the front runners changed during the days racing. Josh Hart rode most consistently and took the overall first without winning a race. Cole Hunter’s second race win wasn’t enough to take him into the top place, but was enough to see him into second overall, tied on points with Brett Sanderson. Adam Extance rode consistently well to take overall fourth. Joshua Chapman’s high placed finish in the last race was enough to lift him into overall fifth. Lewis Riley won the first race, but a DNF in the next dropped him down into overall eighteenth! Next out a full gate of Novices lined up. The first race finished early after an accident saw Tom Jennings loaded into the Air Ambulance. Overall winner with maximum points was Scott Hedley, showing excellent riding skills in the sand. Darren Steels’ poor second race didn’t affect him too badly as he finished overall second. Overall third, even again with a bad last race (thanks to an excellent first race finish) was Ben Williams. Jan Lawrence rode a fantastic last race which saw him lifted into fourth overall. Sverrir Olgeirsson rode consistently well and took overall fifth, just ahead of Tom Fawkes in sixth. Next out went the Youth 125’s. Ashley Harland rode an excellent first race, taking the win with ease, but jumped up into the Adult Experts afterwards, leaving the way clear for Lee Evans to take the last race win, and the overall first. Second overall, tied on points with first, with more consistent riding was Ryan Sumner. Darryl Tate and Craig Tiernan also battled each other with Tate finishing third overall, leaving Tiernan in fourth. An excellent last race saw Dale Wootton jump into overall fifth, just ahead of Matthew Colwill on sixth overall. Out next another full line up of Adults in the B class. Robert Kessler took overall first after an excellent last race win. Danny Greensmith and Darren Appleyard tied on points, but Greensmith had a better last race, giving him the overall second place. Appleyard took overall third. Luke Crang rode a fantastic last race with lifted him into overall fourth, while the winner of the first race had a disastrous last race which dropped him into fifth overall, while Mike Thompson rode consistently well all day to take overall sixth. Last out went the Adult Expert As. As always the standard of racing in this group was awesome. Scott Beevers took the first race win and gained enough points to keep overall first with some excellent riding. Luke Burton took second overall with a fantastic last race fnish, tied on points with third overall Dan Hiorns. Gavin Crane saved his best performance for the last moto, finishing second, giving him overall fourth. William Foster and Chris Haynes battled hard all day, with Foster just taking overall fifth, leaving Haynes in sixth overall. The racing was cut to two blocks after Tom Jennings had his
accident, but riders waited patiently during the delay in racing, and for that
the club would like to thank everybody there for being very supportive of the
club, Tom and Tom’s family. The
news now that Tom is recovering from head injuries and doing well is good news.
A collection on the day raised £120 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and
at the next meeting on 8th June at TJs MX Park a further collection
will be held. The performance of the
medics was definitely the best performance of the day, and the club would like
to thank Billy Ruddick, ER24, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Yorkshire Air
Ambulance for their assistance.

2 Club Championship Race
Report: Lynsey Hamer
With the rest of the country drowning in rain, you could be forgiven for thinking anyone at 90 Racing was making it up when we said we were sat in the sun – but we did all day. A bit of overnight drizzle made the track perfect for riding on. By the end of the day it was dry, dusty and hard, and the boys on the track rode even harder. Under new ownership the track owners put a lot of effort into preparation, and it showed. Out first in the sun went the Autos. With a big line up the racing was furious with these little guys. Undisputed winner, Christopher Mills, took all three race wins, and looked at ease. Daniel Shepherd and Ben Ruddick chased all day, but weren’t good enough on the day, settling for second and third respectively. Oliver Consterdine took third in the last race, enough to lift him into fourth overall, just above Brandon Sharples. Sharples looked a contender for Mills, taking second in the second race, but bike failure saw him drop his position in the last race, leaving him in fifth overall. Next out went the Junior 65s, with another big line up. The top five riders were in their own pack on each race. Will Keogh was unchallenged to take all three race wins, with some excellent riding. Eddie Remmer, Ryan Deacon and Jake Biggs didn’t let up the pressure. Remmer took second overall with two second place finishes, just ahead of Deacon and Biggs. Deacon and Biggs tied on points, but a higher place last race finish saw Deacon in third overall, with Biggs in overall fourth. Not far from them came Callum Whaling in fifth. Out next went the Small Wheels 85’s.
Some magnificent riding in this group today saw Jack Weaver again
unchallenged at the front. This
maximum man, sponsored by Powerband Suspension, again rode like a dream, taking
all three motos. Ben Halfpenny
chased hard, but couldn’t get past and finished in overall second.
In third place Lauren Collinwood showed excellent riding in her new
group, beating the boys. Out next the Big Wheels hit the track. Again the top two riders looked unbeatable. Brett Sanderson took all three wins for a deserved first place, with Adam Extance taking three second place finishes for second overall. Lewis Riley had three excellent races, and took third overall. Zak Biggs rode hard all day, and earned a well deserved fourth place finish. Daniel Hall rode well all day to take overall fifth, while a promising Joe Anguish, newly upgraded today was unlucky after taking third spot in the second race – bike failure in the last moto dropped him to overall seventh. Next out went the Novices, and yet again a full gate of
adults shot onto the track. Steven
Hirst and Symon Burton rode fabtastic races all day.
Up next went the Youth 125 class. Again the overall winner Bradley Harrison took all three race wins with some excellent riding. Darryl Tate took two second place finishes, finishing second overall. Luke Crowther dropped his game slightly in the last race, but looked good all day to finish overall third. Matthew Colwill also suffered from a poor last race, finishing fourth overall. Aston Illsley suffered a puncture in the second race & couldn’t finish it which took him out of the running for places – a shame after a fifth and third place. Out next went the Adult B group. Some excellent riding in this group saw Robert Mosley take overall first with three second place finishes. Darren Appleyard rode hard and earned a deserved overall second. Micheal Horne had a poor last race, dropping him into third overall. Dave Evans had a good days riding, and took overall fourth. Liam Eddleston was taken out of the running for points after his front sprocket came off and he was unable to finish the first race, but took the next two moto wins, finishing overall ninth. Last out went the Adult Expert As.
These riders were magnificent, and the standard of riding was impressive
to watch. The airtime these riders
get is unreal! Luke Remmer improved
all day, taking fourth , then second, and the last race win was enough to take
him into first overall. Brad Mercer
had two excellent race finishes to end the day second overall, level on points
with Tony Mucznik. Mercer’s last
race finish was enough to leave Mucznik in third overall.
Richard Cannings had three excellent races but an injury in the second
moto affected his last race and dropped him to fourth overall.
Patrick Gilboy had the first two race wins, but bike failure left him
unable to complete the last race and in tenth place. Today was the auction for Dave Thorpe’s GP race pants. It went well, and £100 was raised for Jimmy ‘Jock’ Morrison, who was at the meeting and thanked everybody at the club for the fund raising efforts our members have put in. Thanks to all riders – another big meeting and it ran lovely and smoothly thanks to the helpers. Also thanks to Phil, track manager, Armthorpe. Overalls: Autos: 1. Christopher Mills 2. Danny Gledhill Big Wheel
gets his highly prized trophy &
2 sets of trophies for Sundays meeting - Courtesy of DE Photo What an end to the Winter Challenge for 90 Racing as 260 turned out for the last round at Finningley on Sunday. With trophies and big prize money for the qualifying riders & also trophies and prize money on the day it was all looking good. The Junior 65s took the track with everything to ride for, as there was not any places settled. Max Griffin had the edge again, and took first place overall, just ahead of Will Wall in second. Jake Biggs had a poor last round, which dropped him into third overall. Shane Sherrif (newly upgraded) had an excellent ride throughout winter and took fourth place overall. Luke Reading took fifth by an excellent last round result. Alex Hamer’s first round finish was enough to see him take sixth overall. Out went the Small Wheels, again with everything riding on this last round. Any of three could have taken it, and in the end it couldn’t be closer. Jack Weaver and Sam Winterburn tied on points at the top. Weaver took first by the results on the last round, leaving Winterburn a hard earned second. Rob Davidson, just moved from 65s, did some excellent riding throughout the series, and a win on the last round was enough to see him third overall, just ahead of another newly upgraded rider, Luke Bull. Joe Anguish rode hard to take fifth overall, with a clear lead as it ended over Tom Bray in sixth. Next out were the Big Wheels. Again, nothing decided until today. Some fantastic riding on the day saw Lewis Riley take overall first, just ahead of Jack Mac in second. New Big Wheel Simon Flaherty rode extremely well in this hard group to take third place. Brett Sanderson was overall fourth, even with taking this last round win. Zak Biggs rode consistently throughput the series and took overall fifth in front of Josh Wilde, whose disastrous last round dropped him to sixth overall. The Novices were up next, and in positions there was fierce competition. Liam Eddleston looked comfortable with the maximum in all three rounds, easing him into overall first. Scott Matthews (who had a horrendous last race today) never looked shaken out of the second spot, but Mike Thompson nearly did so with an excellent finish today which just wasn’t enough to lift him from third overall. In fourth overall and looking tired on the day after a bad day on the track was Jason Teale. Sam Chapman beat Andy Lamb for fifth overall with an excellent last roud finish to see Chapman in fifth, Lamb in sixth overall. The Youth 125 flew onto the track next. Yet again, nothing decided. Sean Satchwell looked favourite for the series after round 1, but a broken foot has had him out since round 2, leaving Ryan Sumner to take first overall with some outstanding riding. Satchwell and Sumner (looking fantastic on the 125) would have been excellent to watch, but Oliver Bennett in second overall, and Dale Wootton in third were just as much competition. Bennett did some exceptional riding today, and managed to overtake Wootton in the points. Luke Crowther, who is improving at an extraordinary rate took fourth place. Ashley Collins, also quickly improving took fifth overall, just ahead of Simon Linnit in sixth. The 125/250f group saw some excellent riding today, but
unquestionably first was Scott Beevers. Outstanding
riding throughout the series saw him comfortably settle into the first place
spot, closely followed by a vastly improved Jack Teale.
Not far behind these two came Benn Needham.
The Adult Open group looked a walk in the park for Sean
Eckersley until Ashland Harland joind.

Racing MXC (ORPA) Final Round Winter Challenge & Round 1 Club Championship 2nd March 2008 Race
Report: Lynsey Hamer
Josh Hart enjoys some
airtime – Courtesy of DE Photo With Storm Emma whipping the country anyone arriving in Finningley paddock on Saturday could have been forgiven for expecting the worst come Sunday. The wind was howling and the rain started in the early hours, but everyone still got up to a fresh, sunny morning just perfect for racing. Obviously many agreed with the weather because 260 riders turned out to ride Finningley for the first race meeting there since 2007. The track looked perfect for riding on, and so it was. This meeting saw the Autos take to the track for the first time with 90 Racing since October 2007, not that you could tell by the standard of riding. Christopher Mills came out of the start gate like the other riders were demons after him. He held that lead almost all day, only dropping one race to flying Oliver Consterdine. Ben Ruddick was up at the front all day with them, and they mixed the results, ending up Mills first overall, Ruddick second and Consterdine third overall. Ryan Garthwaite rode consistently, taking three fourth place finishes & ending fourth overall. Next out went the Junior 65s.
The Winter Challenge rested on today’s results, with three riders in
the running for the coveted top spot. On
the day, no-one could take Curtis Ferguson and Eddie Remmer who stormed all
three races between them, enjoyed the sand at Finningley.
Out next went the Small Wheels - 36 riders, and they hit the track like the proverbial bats. They produced a real mixed bag of results. The most consistent rider on the day was Connor Clarke taking the last two race wins, overcoming a disappointing first race to take overall first. Michael Eccles, after winning the first race, took a well earned second overall with two third place finishes. Rob Davidson came back from a poor second race to take third overall. Jack Heath, Jack Weaver and Sam Winterburn all enjoyed top 3 places during the days racing, but none could hold the position consistently enough to overcome the leaders. They finished Heath fouth, Weaver fifth and Winterburn just sixth. Next up were the Big Wheels. Another big gate of 33 riders saw much more consistent riding from the leaders. Jake Page took the early lead, and never lost it. The maximum points on the day with all three race wins were well earned by Page as he was chased hard by the rest of the pack. Jake Millward and Lewis Parkinson rode hard to catch Page, but never quite made it. Millward took his second overall by way of three second placements, and Parkinson settled for all three third place spots. Callum Luxton looked promising in the first two races, but couldn’t finish the last race and dropped out of the results. Cole Hunter also looked promising, but his high place in the last race couldn’t overcome the second race finish for him and left him in fourth place, tied on points with Stacey Fisher in overall fifth. Next out went the Novices, and yet again a full gate of Novices exploded onto the track from the first corner. The early lead was again taken by Liam Eddleston who rode like a dream again. He didn’t drop the lead all day despite constant challenging until a mistake in the last race saw him drop to second. It wasn’t enough to take a deserved first place overall from him again. Scott Matthews looked his closest challenger with two second place finishes, but mechanical failure left him unable to complete the last race and finish back in tenth. Second overall went to Ben Williams who improved all day to take the last race win with some exceptional riding. Linford Healey and Mike Thompson both raced hard, but poor finishes in the last race for both rider saw them settle for Healey In third overall, and Thompson in fourth. Up next went 36 Youth 125 riders, and it was good to see so many 125’s on the same gate. There was some awesome riding in this group. Again a mixed bag of results, with the top four riders changing places all day. First overall with first-rate riding went to Ryan McClain with the last two race wins. Michael Hughes took second in the last race, and that was enough to see him finish second overall. Lewis Meadows, who took the first race win had a disasterous second race, but pulled back in the last race to finish third overall, just ahead of Levi Whiteoak. Whiteoak had been riding well until a poor last race left him in fourth overall. Some excellent consistent riding in a very fast group saw newly upgraded Luke Crowther finish fifth overall. Out next went the Adult 125/250f, again with 37 on the gate. One look at the signing on sheets said this was a race not to be missed, and so it proved. Joe Gregory looked unstoppable for the first two races, but was just beaten in the last race. Gregory still took a justified first place overall. Scott Beevers was the one to beat him in the last race, earning himself second place overall with some tremendous riding. Both William Foster and Dean Houghton looked like they would be up with Gregory but both had catastrophic last races which left them trailing. Wayne Barker took third place overall, just before Dave Wall in overall fourth. Wall took third in the second race, but couldn’t hold the pace for the last race, with Barker overtaking him to get into the prize money spots by way of an excellent last race finish of fourth. Last out went the Adult Open.
Again looking at the sheet didn’t even prepare for the standard of
riding out on the track. Maximum man
Joe Gregory (coming straight off the track in the Adult 125/250f race onto the
Open gate) again took first overall with some awe-inspiring riding.
Not for one second did he show any hint of tiredness (which after the
hard racing in the first group was surprising).
He looked unstoppable, but Ashley Harland did not let him get away for a
second. Harland took three second
place finishes, and overall second, and every race saw him right behind Gregory.
Not for one second did either of these riders ease the pressure on the
throttle and each deserved their places. Gavin
Crane looked clearly in third place until a disaster in the last race saw him
drop into fifth overall. Sean
Eckersley took a well raced third place overall, just ahead of Simon Harding.
Harding improved all day to take third place in the last race, and a well
earned fourth overall. A smooth days riding for all concerned with no serious injuries, and only one short delay when the paramedic thought he would have a go at the Finningley track & thereby got his ambulance stuck! Soon resolved, and away we went. Every credit to Ed Bradley and his team for preparing a track which took a pounding all day, stood up to it perfectly, and was only just getting dusty by the end of the last block. It was also good to see Connor Field, who broke his femur at an earlier round, turn up with cards to say thanks to the club and all his friends for all their support since his accident. See you soon Connor, along with all our other riders. Overalls: Autos: 1. Christopher Mills 2. Ben Ruddick 3. Oliver Consterdine 4. Ryan Garthwaite 5. Charlie Allen 6. Thomas Holgate Jnr 65: 1. Racing MXC (ORPA) 3rd
Round Winter Challenge Race
Report: Lynsey Hamer
A fantastic turnout again for 90 Racing MXC at round 3 of the Winter Challenge. On a freezing cold frosty morning the sun soon warmed the paddock nicely & the action on the track kept the riders hot. Again thanks go to Bryn, with a track that was perfect to ride. Thanks also to all marshals who kept the day running smoothly. To all those who donated to the collection for Jock, we raised a fantastic £192, so well done and thanks!! Out first went the Junior 65s, and the early lead went to Max Griffin. He couldn’t hold it til the line, and Jake Biggs came through to take the first place. Griffin didn’t make the same mistake in the second race, taking the chequered with ease, but Biggs showed style in the last, taking the third win, and overall first, withGriffin settling for second. William Wall and Sheldon Fox chased hard all day, but couldn’t get near the front two, finishing third and fourth overall. Eddie Remmer showed promise in the first race, taking third, but couldn’t hold the pace and settled for fifth overall. Kennan Hird overcame a poor second race to finish third in the last race, finishing sixth overall. Next out went the Small Wheel class.
Jack Weaver and Jason Moore went at the track like the proverbial bats.
Weaver took the first race win, Up came the Big Wheels and the front few again pulled away from the rest of the class with ease. The overall win went with three race wins to Cole Hunter, who didn’t make a mistake all day. Chasing him all day was Lewis Riley, but he just could not catch Hunter, and settled for second overall. Third place went to Simon Flaherty with some excellent riding. Jack Mac overcame a poor first race finish to take fourth overall, just ahead of Zac Biggs in fifth. Out next went the Novice members group, and with a full line up you just knew it was going to be good. Cleanly away each time, the front runners mixed it up all day. Taking the first win, and the most consistent all day was Robert Mosley, and he really earned his overall first. Second overall by virtue of the last race win was Scott Matthews. Richard Davies, who claimed the second race win, couldn’t get higher than third in the last race, leaving him third overall. They couldn’t get away from the pack, and Mike Thompson and Liam Eddleston were in hot pursuit, but just couldn’t get up there, finishing fourth and fifth overall respectively. Next the Novice non-members and with another full gate there wasn’t a minute to take a breath. Nathan Lister was a pleasure to watch but he didn’t have it all his own way. He took the first two race wins, with a second in the last race, and took a deserved and hard earned overall first. Steven Gibson tailed Lister all day, with Jordan O’Brien and Daniel Petit right behind him, but they couldn’t get near Lister. They mixed it as well, but finished Gibson, O’Brien then Petit in fourth. Ben Williams was the only one to beat Lister on the day, but his poor first race result reflected in the points that left him in fifth overall. Next out went the Youth 125, and there is some talent riding in this group. Ryan Sumner took overall first with some fantastic riding. Two race wins were enough to place him at the top. Dale Wootton tied on points with Oliver Bennett, but his last race second place was enough to give him overall second. Watch Wootton if you get chance – the airtime this kid gets is unreal!! Brad Harrison showed vast potential, taking the second race win, but a poor last race left him trailing in fourth overall. Out last went Adult 125/250f and the Adult Open - the fast boys. Fastest of them again was Ashley Harland. Despite being unseated in the last race nothing could stop him today, and he took the maximum points with all three race wins – he looks at ease out there. The Open overall second went to Sean Eckersley, who took it with style over Wayne Tindell in third overall. Fourth overall and chasing hard was Stuart Danby. In the Adult 125/250f Scott Beevers took the maximum with three lovely race wins – he really does ride with style, but Jack Teale was battling all day with him. Beevers however was just too good, taking the overall first, with Teale in second. Thomas Swales and Ben Needham looked consistent and comfortable, taking third and fourth overall respectively. The pack behind has second or third place finishes each, but each dropped it in different races, leaving them behind the steadier riders. All in all another excellent days riding and thanks to all who turned out. Overalls: Jnr 65: 1. Jake Biggs 2. Max Griffin 3. William Wall m 4. Sheldon Fox 5. Eddie Remmer 6. Keenan Hird

Racing MXC (ORPA) 2nd
Round Winter Challenge Race
Report: Lynsey Hamer When most of the country has been awash with rain for weeks driving to a track in the middle of the flood area did not hold much appeal. To get there on Saturday and discover a track and paddock dry as a bone was a pleasant surprise! All credit goes to Bryn Close for a track perfectly prepared – that was dusty by the end of the first block! With big groups on every gate it looked from the start to be a good day – and it was. There was even an extra group added when 60 Novice riders turned out, and the club ran the non-members in a class all of there own. Out first went the Junior 65s, and from the outset you knew these were quick. Dan Whitehead took the maximum with three excellent wins. Max Griffin and William Wall didn’t let him out of their sights, but just weren’t fast enough, settling for overall second and third respectively. Jay Hague and Jake Biggs chased hard all day, getting fourth and fifth, just ahead of Shane Sherriff. Best wishes to Connor Field who broke his femur in his first race when going well. Next up went the Small Wheels 85s with some hot competition at the front went Jack Heath and Sam Winterburn. Heath took the overall first with the second two race wins, with Winterburn second. Chelsea Gowland and Rob Davidson had their own battle for third and fourth, with Gowland just beating Davidson by two points. Tom Neal took fifth overall, in his first Small Wheel race with 28 on the gate, so well done to him. Out went the Big Wheels 85s with Lewis Riley taking an excellent first race win. He couldn’t keep winning when Cole Hunter recovered from a poor first race to take the next two race wins, but still had to take second overall, with Riley taking first overall. Stacey Fisher improved all day to take third overall in front of Brett Sanderson, whose disappointing last race saw him finish overall fourth. Emerson Jones didn’t get near his first race third place again, but still respectably took fifth overall. Best Wishes to Alex Harvey, who went to get to know the staff at Doncaster Royal when he came off in his first race. Next out went the first Novice group. With 38 on this gate it looked fun from the outset. Scott Hedley took an early lead, and kept it all day in all three races with some excellent riding to take overall well deserved first place. Liam Eddleston and Mike Thompson battled all day, the front three leading the field. Eddleston and Thompson finished on equal points, but Eddleston’s last race finish pushed Thompson into third. Scott Mathews fought hard to take overall fourth, and Jason Teale improved in the second and third race to take fifth place. Next went the Novices again.
Stuart Dandy raced out the gate to the front and also kept the lead all
day, with three race wins, to take first overall.
John Moody and Tom Jennings changed places all day, but Moody just got
the edge in the last, and took overall second, leaving Up next went the Youth 125s. Bradley Harrison stormed the first race, but a poor last race dropped him to fifth overall. Ryan Sumner took two fantastic race wins to end up overall first. Craig Maddock and Oliver Bennett battled and chased all day to finish second and third overall, with Dale Wootton in fourth. Best Wishes to Sean Satchwell who crashed in his first race – at this point the medics knew the A & E sister quite well!! Out last were the Adult. Again the two Expert groups requested to run together, so with another full gate off they went. Ashley Harland, on a 08 Suzuki 250 2 stroke, led the entire Adult field until the last race – where he just got second. That wasn’t enough to take his deserved overall first in the Adult Open from him, but Paul Edge in second overall tried hard to catch him all day, just managing it in the last race. Shaun Wigham and Sean Eckersley battled all day, finished third and fourth respectively. The Adult 125/250 group flew all day also, with Scott Beevers taking a well earned first overall. He didn’t have it all his own way. Jack Teale recovered from a poor first race showing to take the last race win, but that only bumped him to third overall. |
